The Brooklyn Theatre Index, Volumes I and II, is the co-winner of the 2010 OUTSTANDING BOOK OF THE YEAR by the Theatre Historical Society of America (its officers and board members).
THS Director, Donald E. Bohatka, describes it as “must for all serious theatre aficionados and historians.”
The Brooklyn Eagle newspaper has been very supportive. Borough historian, John Manbeck, devoted two columns to the first volume and later included the Index in his holiday gift recommendations. The Eagle covered my October talk for the Bay Ridge Historical Society and even interviewed me at the Society of Old Brooklynites' Holiday party (with another brief mention of the Index).
At the Cinema Treasures website, blog editor Michael Zoldessy, gave the book a plug in September. Followed by a review from theatre editor Ken Roe (who is also with the Cinema Theatre Association of Great Britain):
(The Brooklyn Theatre Index)…”the definitive appraisal of all movie theatres to have operated in Brooklyn, a borough known to have had the most theatres operating out of the five NYC Boroughs.”
The Theatre Historical Society co-winner for Outstanding Book of the Year is Milwaukee Movie Theaters by Larry Widden. Congrats to Mr. Widen.
